PMPML’s night buses getting good response, plans for expansion

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: The night bus service started by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) from Pune station is getting a good response.

However, initially, the bus was plying on only a few routes. Now, the authorities have decided to expand it with a few more routes including Upper Indiranagar and Kothrud.

The PMPML started the night bus service from Pune railway station premises on December 6, 2019. After the service started, 50 to 60 per cent passengers were travelling on Katraj, NDA, Nigdi, Bhosari, Hadapsar and Wagholi routes.

According to PMPML Traffic Manager Anant Waghmare, “Each bus on the existing routes is getting a good response. The railway passengers coming at night have only the option of the bus for safe travel. All buses are full 50 to 60 per cent every night. This helps in terms of revenue generation. These buses are generating Rs 5,000 to 6,000 per trip every day.

The bus service is available between 12 am and 6 am. The city traffic police have welcomed the decision of PMPML.

For passengers arriving at the stand inside the railway premises, the PMPML has deputed four ticket inspectors and stand controllers. These staffers are responsible for giving information to passengers about routes and fare.
