PMPML’s revenue loss in 2018: Rs 20,462L

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has been continuously facing revenue loss for the past few years. According to the economic report tabled on Monday in Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai, the transport body suffered a loss of Rs 20,462 lakh in 2018 and Rs 21,042 lakh in 2017.

As per the report, the PMPML ferried 10.79 lakh passengers in 2017 and 11.21 lakh in 2018. However, 1,382 buses were on the road in 2017 and 1,425 in 2018.

The PMPML buses are the only public transport service in the city on which around 12 lakh passengers are fully dependent. The main reason for the declining revenue is due to constant breakdowns and more than 12 years old buses plying on the road.

However, as per PMPML record, approximately 147 buses are more than 12 years old, 180 buses are 11-12 years old and 370 buses are around 9 to 10 years old.
