PMRDA plans to widen many roads

PUNE: While the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) is planning to increase the share of public transport from current 19 percent to 50 percent by 2038, it has also planned to make changes in road ways to cater to the increasing population of the district.

As per PMRDA, the population of Pune district is expected to cross over 1.44 crore till 2048. With the rising population there will be rise in number of vehicles and so there will be need of wide roads. 

Along with building the 129km ring road, PMRDA is planning to develop several new roads. Apart from these, PMRDA will also be building connecting roads in individual town planning schemes planned by the PMRDA. 

As per the recent survey done by PMRDA 10.6 lakh vehicles enter/ leave the pune region on a daily basis , of which 1.38 lakh vehicles commute via Nagar Road and 1.13 lakh through Hinjawadi. Officials of the PMRDA said that 14 roads of Pune will be widened to 4 lane and six lane as per the need in another ten years.
