Pune: The Wanawadi police on Monday booked a man for killing his wife by hitting her with an axe while she was fast asleep. The attack took place over a domestic dispute at Wadkarmala in Mohammadwadi around 1 am.

The deceased has been identified as Sangeeta Shrikant Chavan (26), a native of Karnaltanda in Vijayapura district of Karnataka. Her husband Shrikant Chavan is absconding.  The police said that the accused suspected her character and also fought over some domestic issues.  An FIR against the accused has been registered with Wanawadi police station.
