Pune: The Standing Committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) during a meeting held on Monday, approved a proposal in favour of increasing entry fees for the aquarium at the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje garden on Jangli Maharaj Road. 

Henceforth, PMC will be charging Rs 20 per adult and Rs 10 for children as entry fee of the renovated and extended aquarium, which will be open for public soon.

The PMC has been running this aquarium at Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje Garden from August 1, 1953. This aquarium was registered with International Aquarium Congress in 1970. 

Initially, there were 45 iron tanks. Re 1 was charged for adults and Rs 0.50 for chlidren. The facility was closed between January 1, 1994 and May 18, 1994 for renovation. At that time, the still tanks were removed and transparent glass tank was installed at the facility. The facility was renovated again in 2004.

Since large number of people were visiting the facility, the garden department of PMC has upgraded the facility with  big and diverse species of fish. 

This aquarium is set to open for the public soon. Currently, the entry fee is only Rs 2 for adults and Re 1 for children, which is 
too less. 

Considering the variety of fish in the facility, it has been decided that the entry fee to the facility is to be increased.
