PUNE: A city-based chemical engineer has manufactured pots and birds’ nests from cow dung, which do not dissolve in water and disintegrate in sunlight. This is a kind of alternative for pots and birds’ nests made of plastic, as it is not harmful to the environment.

Prasad Sindagi has been researching on it for two years and now finally he has got it patented. Sindagi told Sakal Times that generally cow dung dissolves or disintegrates when it comes in contact with sunlight and water. “But I have used trees gum and skin, mixed it with cow dung to produce pots and birds’ nests,” he said.

Sindagi has his factory for these products at Talegaon. He pays for the cow dung which is collected from 26 farmers of Talegaon.  

“Every day 400 pots and nests can be made. Both the products are sold in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Jalgaon, Nagpur and Bhusaval. Along with it 15,000 pots will be shipped to Europe next week,” he added.

Sindagi is also working on making logs, jewellery, bricks and tiles from cow dung. He is collecting cigarette butts and recycling them to make paper.

Till now more than 20,000 pots have been  produced which are priced from Rs 25 to Rs 700 depending on the size from 3 inches to 3 feet. More than 1,000 birds nests are made which are available from Rs 300 to 500 in sizes from 8 inches to one foot long.
