Pune: A 57-year-old Army officer of the rank of Brigadier, currently posted at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, died of suicide after he was crushed under a moving train at Pune Railway Station on Sunday.

According to a press release issued by the Railway Police, the deceased has been identified as Brigadier Anant Naik, Head of the Department and Hospital Administration, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune.

Naik was a resident of Bhubaneswar and was posted at AFMC in Pune. After arriving at the Pune Railway Station on Sunday, he had told his driver that he will return after visiting the MSO. However, at 12:45, he died by suicide. Anant Naik allegedly jumped in front of the Solapur-bound Udyan Express. The train departed from Pune at 11:50 in the morning on Sunday from platform number 3 where he allegedly jumped in front of the train.

Army issued a statement saying, “Information about the death of an army person at Pune railway station was reported by the railway police to the army authorities. The body of the deceased individual has been identified as a serving officer from AFMC Pune. Further details are being ascertained.”

No suicide note was found from him. Information about his death was also conveyed to Naik's son and post mortem is to be conducted on Monday. Meanwhile, the GRP (Government Railway Police) Pune has registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case.
