Pune, 25 July 2025: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially lifted the temporary suspension of Café Goodluck’s licence, allowing the iconic Deccan Gymkhana restaurant to resume operations. The decision comes after a re-inspection confirmed that the establishment had addressed earlier hygiene lapses and met food safety norms.
The restaurant was temporarily shut earlier this week after a viral video surfaced online, allegedly showing glass shards in a bun served at the restaurant. Following the video, FDA officials conducted an inspection and found several violations of hygiene protocols.
In response, the restaurant took corrective measures. A follow-up inspection by food safety officers confirmed compliance with Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), which outlines essential practices for hygiene in food handling, storage, preparation, and waste disposal.
Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner of the FDA's Pune division, stated that the restaurant had met the necessary standards required for reopening. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strict hygiene in all food establishments, including clean utensils, safe waste disposal, and personal cleanliness of food handlers.
Café Goodluck, a popular hangout known for its bun maska-chai, keema, and egg dishes, is now welcoming patrons once again.
