Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to get GI (Geographical Indication) tag for their playgrounds and swimming pools. Besides that, they are working to start an online booking facility for Nehru stadium and Sanas sports ground.

Recently, the civic body has transferred the charge of all playgrounds and swimming pools and sports-related establishments to the sports department. Earlier, it was under the PMC’s estate and management department. PMC sports department head Vanashree Labhsetwar said, “The corporation’s land record and management department has started handing over documents and other details of the sports-related establishment to the sports department. We have formed cells to verify the information and check the status of the sports grounds and swimming pools. After completing the process of verification, we will start the process of maintenance and allotments of grounds and pools.”

“We will GI tag all sports-related establishments. GI tag will help to manage, retrieve, capture, analyse, display and store data. We will decide to make a regular audit of sports grounds. We will also take action against contractors who will breach the terms and conditions mentioned in the contract agreement,” she added.

She further said, “We will initiate the process of online booking for Pandit Nehru sports complex ground and Sanas sports ground. The information will be available on the civic body’s website soon.”
