Pune: COVID-19 patient missing from Covid hospital found after 17 days

Pune: A 33-year-old woman, who had gone missing from a Jumbo COVID Hospital in Shivajinagar, Pune was finally found after 17 days at the outskirts of the city on Saturday.

Priya Gaikwad had gone missing from Jumbo COVID-19 Hospital on September 9. According to reports, she was admitted to the COVID Hospital of Shivajinagar on August 29 and was to be discharged on September 13. However, the PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) had said the woman was discharged from the hospital on September 5.

Her family had lodged a missing complaint with Shivaji Nagar police station and also led protest outside the centre against the hospital authorities for their negligence. The woman was admitted to the hospital, located at the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) ground in Shivajinagar, on August 29 after testing positive for COVID-19, her mother said.

The family earlier had demanded action against authorities for alleged negligence and disappearance of a woman from the COVID hospital. According to reports, the woman, who is separated from her husband, has a five-year-old son. The victim had been living with her parents in Hadapsar.

Balasaheb Kopnar, Senior Inspector of Police, Shivajinagar Police said, “The police were in search for the woman. The woman was found by the police on Saturday morning. The girl has not been brought to Shivajinagar police station yet. We are probing the matter further.”

Rubel Agarwal, Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation informed that the woman was released from the hospital on September 5 after treatment. She is now with family. Her condition is being monitored and she is completely fine.
