The complaint was filed by the Medical Superintendent of a rural hospital. According to the police, the alleged offences took place between January 9, 2025, and April 14, 2026, at Maher Hospital in Uruli Kanchan.

The case came to light during an inspection related to an illegal abortion investigation at another hospital in Kedgaon. While examining hospital records, officials contacted a woman patient whose details led them to Maher Hospital.

Preliminary findings indicated that some abortion procedures may have been carried out without obtaining proper patient consent and without complying with mandatory legal and medical requirements.

Investigators have also found alleged irregularities in patient records and documentation. Authorities suspect that several case papers were incomplete and lacked essential patient information, making verification difficult.

During the court hearing, the prosecution argued that custodial interrogation was necessary to determine the identities of affected patients, verify records, trace possible accomplices, and investigate whether a larger illegal abortion network was involved.

The prosecution also sought to determine whether additional registers or records exist beyond those already seized.

Accepting the prosecution's arguments, the court granted police custody of Dr. Mote until June 21 to facilitate further investigation.
