The raid was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs received by the police. Authorities said the action targeted illegal activities and unauthorized stay in the Budhwar Peth red-light district.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Krushikesh Rawale said, “Acting on credible information, our teams carried out a coordinated raid in Budhwar Peth and detained 22 women found at the premises.”

According to police officials, 11 of the detained women produced valid Indian identity documents, which were verified. Of the remaining 11, six admitted during questioning that they were from Bangladesh, while the nationality of the other five was confirmed during document verification.

Police stated that the women were allegedly staying in the area using bogus Aadhaar cards and other forged papers.

Rawale further said, “We will send a proposal to seal the premises where the illegal activity was taking place. Similar enforcement drives will continue to curb unlawful activities and ensure strict action.”

Police have initiated legal proceedings and further verification in connection with the case. Authorities have indicated that such operations will be conducted regularly in the area to prevent unauthorized residency and illegal activities.
