Pune Cyber Crime: Senior Citizen Duped of ₹7.96 Lakh After Mobile Hack

Pune Cyber Crime: Unknown link leads to cyber fraud; Police have registered a case and warned citizens against opening suspicious links

Pune, 13 April 2026: A 68-year-old senior citizen from Erandwane area was duped of ₹7.96 lakh in a cyber fraud after unknowingly clicking on a suspicious link sent to his mobile phone.

According to police, the victim’s mobile number was linked to his bank account. A few days ago, he received a message containing an unknown link from an unfamiliar number.

Upon clicking the link, cybercriminals gained unauthorized access to his mobile device and subsequently transferred ₹7.96 lakh from his bank account without his knowledge.

The fraud came to light when the victim noticed a sudden and significant deduction from his account balance. He then approached Alankar Police Station and filed a complaint.

Based on his statement, a case has been registered against unidentified persons, and further investigation is underway.

Cyber police have observed a rise in such cases across the city, where fraudsters exploit unsuspecting users through malicious links. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid clicking on links received from unknown sources, especially on messaging platforms like SMS or WhatsApp.
