Pune, 21st August 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch arrested Sachin Marale, 33, an electrician from Baramati who was living in Old Sangvi, in connection with a series of motorcycle thefts. Police recovered 22 stolen motorcycles worth around ₹12.90 lakh from him.
The investigation began with a motorcycle theft case registered at Pimpri police station. Assistant Police Inspector Dattatreya Guling examined footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras and noticed that the suspect avoided main roads and used smaller bylanes after stealing the two-wheelers.
The police tracked Marale's movements and arrested him before he could escape. The operation was carried out by a crime branch team led by Senior Police Inspector Rameshwar Motale.
During questioning, Marale allegedly admitted to stealing at least 22 motorcycles from different parts of Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune city and Pune district.
Police said he sold the stolen motorcycles to different buyers at low prices. He allegedly told customers that the bikes had been seized by finance companies, which helped him sell them without raising suspicion.
Police have also registered cases against seven people who allegedly purchased the motorcycles without checking their registration and ownership documents.
Investigators have so far traced the owners of 16 of the recovered motorcycles. Efforts are underway to identify the owners of the remaining six bikes and complete the investigation.
The police are also examining the recovered motorcycles and the transactions involving their sale to determine whether Marale was part of a larger theft and resale network.
