Pune, 16th July 2026: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its crackdown on food adulteration by conducting a major raid at B.G. Goyal & Company, a wholesale spice and food grain trader in Pune's Market Yard. The establishment belongs to the family of Siya Goyal, one of the accused in the Ketan Agrawal murder case.
During the inspection, FDA officials seized turmeric powder, sesame seeds and soybean chunks worth ₹8.14 lakh, weighing more than 4,000 kg, after suspecting adulteration and identifying several regulatory violations.
Nine samples, including products sold under the 'Sant' and 'Sadhu' brands, have been sent to a laboratory for detailed analysis. Further legal action will be taken after the test reports are received.
The inspection also revealed multiple violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act. Officials found deficiencies in product labelling, non-compliance with mandatory food safety norms and failure to update the firm's food business licence as required.
As a result, the FDA issued a notice directing the establishment to suspend business operations until further orders.
The Market Yard raid was carried out as part of the FDA's ongoing anti-adulteration campaign across the Pune division.
In Sangli district's Miraj taluka, officials destroyed suspected adulterated milk and registered criminal cases against those involved. Separate raids in Bopodi, Pune, and two locations in Kolhapur led to the seizure of banned gutkha and other prohibited food products worth ₹22,789, with criminal cases also being registered.
Overall, the FDA seized suspected adulterated food products worth ₹8.33 lakh during the latest enforcement drive across the Pune division. Officials said strict action against food adulteration, licence violations and other food safety offences will continue in the coming weeks.
