Pune, 23 January 2026: The Pune Grand Tour came to a conclusion amid huge crowds and electric atmosphere at the Pune Pride Loop. Luke Mudgway delivered a commanding overall performance to guide China-based Li Ning Star to both individual and team honours, capping off a highly successful five-day international cycling event.
Mudgway won the Pune stage and finished the tour with a total time of 9 hours 33 minutes 04 seconds, emerging as the undisputed overall champion. His consistency across all four stages ensured that he retained the Yellow Jersey from the opening day till the finish. He also claimed the Green Jersey as the highest points scorer of the race.
The fourth and final stage, covering 95 kilometres through the heart of Pune, was won by Mudgway’s teammate Alexey Shnayrko, who clocked 1 hour 56 minutes 54 seconds.
Cameron Nicholas Scott finished second, while Dylan Hopkins of Roubaix Insurance WinSpeed secured third place. Riders passed through several historic city landmarks, including routes near Shaniwar Wada, completing a total race distance of 437 kilometres over four stages.
In the overall team standings, Li Ning Star topped the chart with a cumulative time of 28 hours 41 minutes 19 seconds. Spain’s Burgos Burpellet BH finished second, followed by Malaysia’s Terengganu Cycling Team in third place. Mudgway’s dominance was evident as Li Ning Star riders won stages with three different cyclists, underlining the team’s depth and strategy.
Speaking after his overall victory, Mudgway credited his team rather than individual effort. He said the success was the result of strong teamwork, long hours of training and collective commitment throughout the week. He also praised the Pune crowd, calling the support along the route unforgettable and expressing his desire to return for future editions.
UCI Managing Director Amina Lanaya hailed the event as a proud moment for India, stating that the country had successfully delivered a world-class cycling race in its very first edition. With Olympic Los Angeles 2028 ranking points on offer, the tour carried added global significance.
The successful Pune finale has been widely seen as the beginning of a new era for professional cycling in India, combining international competition, strong local participation and enthusiastic public support.
