Pune: MahaMetro has begun work on a pedestrian subway linking the planned hub to the state transport bus terminus at Swargate. Along with the proposed multi-purpose transport centre at Swargate (Pune), the Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation (MMRC) has undertaken the task of constructing a subway to facilitate commuters. The work has started to break the walls of the flyover leading to Swargate next to Laxminarayan Theatre. Due to this work, the traffic on the flyover and under the flyover will be closed.

Under the Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate metro line, work has been undertaken to set up a multi-purpose transport centre at Swargate area. This work is currently in progress. Traffic coming from Katraj towards Swargate will be diverted.

A multi-purpose transport hub is being set up with PMPML, bus stand, metro as well as private passenger transport facilities. An underground route is proposed from this transport centre to PMPML, Swargate bus stand. Work on the subway has been started by MahaMetro and the embankment where the flyover lands will be demolished.

“The walls of the flyover leading to Swargate next to Laxminarayan Cinema are being demolished, that permission has also been obtained from the Pune Municipal Corporation for this work.” MahaMetro officials said.

Four years ago, a flyover was set up by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) from Jedhe Chowk to Satara Road. The Swargate bus stand will be set up on one side of the flyover and a multi-purpose transport centre will be set up on the other side. Therefore, it is planned to connect this transport centre and Swargate station by subway.

Phugewadi to Sandwick Company Grade Separator closed for transportation. Metro work is in full swing in Pimpri-Chinchwad. To expedite the work of Metro, Grade Separator Road (Old Mumbai-Pune Road) from Phugewadi Metro Station to Sandwick Company will be closed for traffic from 11 am to 6 pm and from 11 pm to 6 am till September 10. The BRT route will also be closed during this period and motorists should use the service road, an appeal has been made by MahaMetro.
