Pune: Man dupes city’s famous jeweller of Rs one crore

Pune: Crime Branch Unit I will investigate the complaint filed by Saurabh Gadgil, Managing Director and CEO of PN Gadgil Jewellers. Gadgil has alleged that a Punjab-based person has duped him of Rs 1.60 crore on the pretext of availing Rs 50 crore loan for opening a store at Chandigarh.

Saurabh Vidyadhar Gadgil (43), residing at Sadashiv Peth has filed the complaint in this regard at Vishrambaug police station. Based on his complaint, police have booked a person named Rohit Kumar Sharma from Punjab.

According to police, the incident took place between 2018 to 2021. Saurabh Gadgil owns the P N Gadgil Jewellers shop located at Laxmi Road in Pune. The suspect had allegedly approached Gadgil at his shop and gained his confidence.

Sharma offered to open a store of PNG Jewellers in Chandigarh and also told Gadgil that he would avail a loan of Rs 50 crore. On the pretext of availing this loan, Sharma took Rs 1.60 crore from Gadgil. When Sharma failed to avail the loan and refused to return the money, Gadgil filed a complaint with the Pune Police.
