Pune: Massive crowd witnessed at Gultekdi market yard

ST Staff

Pune:  In the light of the 10-day long lockdown, a massive crowd was seen at Gultekadi Market yard on Sunday, for purchasing vegetables and fruits. With the fear of food shortage during the lockdown, people rushed to the markets to stock up on foods and essentials.

Owing to the increased demand, the rates of fruits and vegetables have increased by at least 70 to 100 per cent in the markets. These markets have never experienced such huge crowds, but unprecedented times have invited unprecedented consequences.

Violation of Social Distancing

While social distancing and sanitation is the need of the hour, a crowded market is the major spots where norms of social distancing are violated. Also, no sanitizer is used to disinfect the place. The earlier market committee had started the use of a thermal gun for testing the temperature of customers. But that process of checking has also had to stop.

Shivaneri path road witnessed traffic since the morning. The members of the market committee were trying to decrease the number of people. But it did have a good impact as the crowd was in a big amount. Surprisingly, amidst such difficult conditions, no presence of police was noticed.
