Pune, 6th April 2026: The National Highways Authority of India has stepped up safety measures at the accident-prone Navale Bridge stretch in Pune by installing an advanced surveillance system and introducing stricter traffic controls. The move aims to reduce frequent accidents and ease congestion in the area.

A total of 14 CCTV cameras along with three high-speed gantry cameras have been installed across the stretch. These cameras are directly connected to the police control room, enabling round-the-clock real-time monitoring.

In case of an accident, authorities can now respond immediately, improving emergency handling.

Considering the steep slope near the bridge and heavy movement of vehicles, especially trucks, the speed limit has been reduced from 60 kmph to 40 kmph.

Signboards displaying the new limit have been installed across the route, and vehicles exceeding the limit will face automatic penalties through the camera system.

Additional measures have also been introduced to naturally control vehicle speed and enhance driver awareness. Rumble strips have been laid from the Katraj Tunnel to Navale Bridge.

Three digital display boards are being installed to provide real-time updates on weather, traffic, and road conditions. Reflective cat-eyes, lane markings, blinkers, and warning signs have also been added to make the stretch safer.

Project Director Sanjay Kadam said the focus is on ensuring faster response during accidents and improving driver control on the slope. He added that the integration of cameras with the police system and the use of rumble strips and digital boards will help reduce risks, while continuous monitoring will ensure strict action against traffic violations.
