Pune, 7th July 2025: In a troubling incident from Wadachiwadi in Pune’s Undri area, a pregnant woman was forced to deliver her baby on the roadside after a severe traffic jam delayed the arrival of an ambulance. The timely intervention of local women ensured the safe delivery, shedding light on the urgent need for improved traffic management in the area.
The woman, a resident of Uttar Pradesh living in a rented home in Pune with her husband, began experiencing intense labour pains on Saturday morning. Her husband called for an ambulance, but the vehicle got stuck in traffic while they waited under a tree near their home.
Realising the gravity of the situation, former sarpanch Poonam Bandal and another local woman, Anita Bandal, rushed to help. Using traditional methods, they safely helped the woman deliver a healthy baby girl on the roadside.
The ambulance arrived about 20 minutes after the delivery and transported the mother and newborn to the hospital for further care. Both are reported to be in good health.
This incident has triggered widespread concern among local residents over the persistent traffic congestion in Wadachiwadi and the surrounding Undri area. They attribute the problem to heavy construction dumpers that routinely block the narrow roads, creating daily chaos.
Many locals are now demanding strict regulation of heavy vehicle movement, especially through residential areas. The event has become a wake-up call, exposing the risks posed by unregulated traffic and inadequate civic planning in a rapidly growing city like Pune.
