Pune, 22 April 2026: A speeding bus of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) crashed into a wedding card shop near Appa Balwant Chowk in central Pune on Tuesday (21 April) afternoon, creating panic in the busy area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
According to police, the bus was on its route from Wadgaon Budruk to Pune Railway Station and was passing along Bajirao Road around 4 pm. While attempting to avoid a stationary truck, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and rammed into 'Prakash Cards', a shop located along the roadside.
The impact caused extensive damage to the shop’s furniture and materials, while several parked two-wheelers outside were also badly damaged. A neighbouring shop, 'Shree Balaji Cards', suffered damage to its signboard. The total loss is estimated to be around ₹12–13 lakh.
The accident occurred during peak hours, leading to temporary traffic congestion in the area. Police from Vishrambaug Police Station reached the spot promptly, along with senior inspector Arun Ghodke and his team. The damaged bus was later removed using a crane, after which traffic movement was restored.
Based on a complaint filed by shop owner Vinod Patange, a case has been registered against the bus driver. He has been taken into custody and underwent a medical examination at Sassoon General Hospital.
The driver stated that he lost control of the steering suddenly, which led to the crash. Police are now investigating whether the incident was caused by a mechanical failure or driver negligence.
