The action has been taken against then Police Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari. According to the inquiry, both officers failed to immediately inform the police control room about the accident and also delayed the collection of the minor driver’s blood samples, key evidence in the case.

Along with their dismissal, two other policemen, constables Ananda Bhosale and Amit Shinde, have been penalised with a five-year freeze on their basic pay. All four officers have been given 60 days to appeal the decision before the Maharashtra Home Department.

The case stems from the May 19, 2024 accident in Pune’s Kalyaninagar, where an underage boy, allegedly driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol, rammed a two-wheeler. The crash killed IT professionals Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Kosta.

Police had suspended Jagdale and Todkari after the initial probe revealed negligence. Pune Police later recommended their dismissal, which has now been confirmed by the DGP’s office.

Meanwhile, ten accused in the case, including the minor’s parents and doctors from Sassoon Hospital who are accused of tampering with evidence, continue to stay in jail as the court has not granted them bail.
