Pune: Police Van Goes Out of Control in Sadashiv Peth, Damages Five Vehicles; Driver Detained

No injuries reported as speeding police van rams parked vehicles near Pune Vidyarthi Griha; driver undergoes medical examination.

Pune, 1st July 2026: Panic gripped Sadashiv Peth on Friday evening after a speeding police van lost control and crashed into several vehicles near Deshmukhwadi, close to Pune Vidyarthi Griha. The accident occurred around 7 pm on the busy stretch, damaging four to five vehicles, including a car, an Ape rickshaw and several parked two-wheelers.

Fortunately, no one was injured, even though several youngsters and children were standing along the roadside when the incident took place. The crash caused substantial damage to the vehicles but no casualties.

According to police, the van was being driven by Balasaheb Khaire when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle. It first rammed into a car and an Ape rickshaw before crashing into other parked vehicles.

Police from Vishrambaug Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving information and detained the driver. A medical examination is being conducted to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol or if any other reason led to the accident.

The road where the accident occurred is quite narrow. The driver suddenly lost control of the police van, which then crashed into several parked vehicles. Four to five vehicles were damaged in the incident. The driver has been detained, and the process of registering a case is underway

Several local residents gathered at the scene immediately after the crash. Some suspected the driver had consumed alcohol after he stepped out of the vehicle, prompting them to alert the police control room.

After the driver stepped out of the police van, many people at the spot suspected that he had consumed alcohol. Residents immediately informed the police control room, and officers reached the scene without delay

Police said the driver's medical test will determine whether alcohol played any role in the incident. Further investigation is underway.
