Pune, 21 April 2026: Nurses at Sassoon General Hospital will join an indefinite statewide strike starting today, following a call by the Maharashtra Government Nurses Association and the state employees’ coordination committee.

The protest includes government, semi-government, and education sector staff raising long-pending demands.

The association has put forward several key demands, including the implementation of the old pension scheme, filling of vacant nursing posts, promotions for tutors, and increasing the retirement age from 58 to 60 years.

A formal notice has been submitted to the hospital administration, warning that services could be affected if the government does not respond quickly.

"The government must take an immediate and positive decision on our demands. Otherwise, an indefinite strike will begin across the state from April 21," said Pragya Gaikwad, Pune president of the association.

With a large number of nurses expected to participate, essential services at the hospital may face disruptions if the strike continues.
