Pune: Schools in Pune city will remain closed till December 13, informed Mayor Murlidhar Mohol. The decision will be reviewed after December 13.

The schools were scheduled to reopen after seven months on November 23.

Mohol made clear that the decision has been taken after discussing the issue with parents and considering the rising cases of COVID-19 post festivals.

Mohol on his Twitter handle wrote, "Schools in Pune will remain shut. All schools in Pune Municipal Corporation jurisdiction will remain shut till December 13. The decision has been taken after consulting with parents and keeping in mind the COVID 19 situation."

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner (PCMC) Shravan Hardikar has also taken the decision that schools in PCMC area will remain shut till November 30.

The state government had permitted schools to reopen for students of class 9 and 10. However, the government also made certain guidelines to adhere the protocols.

On the other side, many parents were still worried to send their children to the school. After Mayor's decision one of the parents (wished to remain anonymous) said, "COVID is still looming and there is no assurance of vaccine, its still a risk to send children to the schools."

Another parent questioned, "Online education is in rhythm while students are also in a habit of learning online so why government wants to reopen the schools until the vaccine is in hand?"

The second wave of the novel virus is being witnessed in multiple cities of the country including nation's capital Delhi. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad has also imposed night curfew to curtail the spread of the contagion.
