Pune set to welcome palkhis today

Pune: The city is set to welcome the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi processions. Both the processions will enter the city on Sunday while on their way to Pandharpur. 

City Mayor Mukta Tilak will welcome Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi at 11 am at Kalas on Alandi Road, while the Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi will be welcomed at the Bopodi traffic signal at around 1 pm.
The Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi has already left from Dehu on Friday.

It took a halt at the Shri Vitthal Temple in Nigdi on Saturday. The Palkhi will leave for Pune on Sunday morning and will enter the city via Pune-Mumbai road.

The Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi left from Alandi on Saturday and took a halt at Gandhi Wada in Alandi and will leave for Pune on Sunday morning. The Palkhi will enter the city via Sangamwadi and stay at the Palkhi Vithoba Mandir in Bhawani Peth.

Both the palkhis will stay in Pune for two days while devotees will throng to pay their obeisance to Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj. On Tuesday morning, both the palkhis will leave for Pandharpur. The palkis will reach Pandharpur on July 3.

The civic administration, district administration and the city police have made necessary arrangements to provide basic amenities and security to devotees. The PMC has set up pandals at strategic locations to welcome the palkhis and made public toilets available. 122 toilet blocks have been made available in Bhavani Peth, 22 in Vishrambaug Wada area, 60 in Yerawada, 10 in Aundh, 40 in Ghole Road area and 26 in Hadapsar area. Drinking water has been provided.

The PMC will supply 24-hour water in all the peth areas, while 173 mobile toilets have been made available. To prevent vector-borne diseases, the PMC carried out fumigation on the palkhi route.
