Pune Tops in Vehicles Registration in Maharashtra; More Than 80,000 Added in October Alone

Pune, 13 November 2025: In persistent traffic chaos, Pune witnessed a record surge in new vehicle registrations in October 2025, driven by festive season demand and a reduction in Goods and Services Tax (GST). The combination of Dussehra and Diwali offers and lower taxes led to a buying mania across the city’s showrooms.

According to released data, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) registered 44,699 new vehicles in October, the highest in Maharashtra. The Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO followed with 29,453 registrations, while Nashik stood third with 22,740. Across the state, a total of 4.45 lakh new vehicles were added during the month.

At the district level, Pune topped the state with 80,213 new vehicles, including 44,699 under Pune RTO, 29,453 under Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO, and 6,061 in Baramati. Thane, Mumbai, and Nashik followed Pune in overall district-wise figures.

Compared to the previous year, Pune’s new vehicle registrations rose from 40,856 in October 2024 to 44,699 in October 2025, a jump of nearly 4,000 vehicles. Two-wheelers dominated sales with 29,788 registrations, while 10,500 cars were added to the city’s roads.

RTO officials said the GST cut and festive offers played a key role in driving this surge. Many buyers had postponed purchases earlier in the year and took advantage of the reduced prices during the festive season. Pune, already among the top RTOs in the state, saw an exceptional rise this year.

However, this boom comes with concerns. Pune already ranks among the most congested cities globally. A 2024 report by traffic analytics by TomTom placed Pune third in the world for traffic congestion. With thousands of new vehicles entering the roads, experts fear that daily commute times and congestion levels could worsen further.
