Data from the IMD’s Shivajinagar observatory shows that city recorded an average maximum temperature of 37.98°C in May 2026. This makes it the warmest May in the city since 2020 in terms of average daytime temperature.

However, IMD data also indicates that the period between 2017 and 2020 saw even higher average maximum temperatures during May.

Night Temperatures Reach Record High

Night-time temperatures were particularly notable this year. Pune recorded an average minimum temperature of 24.12°C in May 2026, the highest average minimum temperature for the month since at least 2014.

Rainfall remained below normal during the month. Pune Shivajinagar received only 13.3 mm rainfall in May, making it the driest May for the city since 2022.

Hot Start to June Before Monsoon Relief

According to IMD forecasts, June is expected to begin on a hotter note, with temperatures continuing to hover around 40°C in the initial days of the month.

Weather officials, however, expect conditions to gradually improve after the arrival of the southwest monsoon, which is likely around June 10.

Pre-Monsoon Showers Expected

Pre-monsoon thunderstorms and scattered rainfall are expected during the first half of June. Once the monsoon fully sets in, Pune is likely to receive more steady and widespread rainfall, which could bring temperatures down to nearly 30°C by the end of the month.
