Pune, 27 November 2025: A case has been registered against a woman by Kothrud Police for allegedly extorting ₹2 lakh from a 47-year-old married man and threatening to leak his photos if he refused to pay. The incident came to light after the man filed a detailed complaint, prompting police to investigate the matter.
The complainant, a resident of Chandgad in Kolhapur, told police that he met the accused, 42-year-old Gauri Pralhad Wajale of Vanaz, in March 2025 during a temple visit in Tuljapur. According to him, she strengthened the acquaintance by pretending to consider him her “brother,” and used that trust to make him travel with her and spend time together.
He further stated that she took him to Kashi Vishwanath, where she forced him into a physical relationship. Later, the woman allegedly pressured him to marry her and insisted on accepting a gold ring.
She then demanded ₹2 lakh, threatening that she would make their photos viral if he refused to pay. He also told police that she openly claimed to have trapped several people in similar ways in the past.
The complainant said that the woman later contacted his wife in Kolhapur and abused her over the phone. He and his wife then returned all items the woman had given them and ended all contact. Following this, she allegedly filed a false complaint against him out of anger.
During their inquiry, Kothrud Police found inconsistencies in her allegations and uncovered the extortion attempt. Based on the man’s complaint, a case has been registered against Gauri Wajale. The investigation is being carried out by Assistant Inspector Karishma Shaikh.
