Queues at Pune Airport to be thing of past

Pune: The long queues at security checkpoints during peak hours at Pune Airport will soon be thing of past. The Pune Airport authority will add two more gates for security checkpoints and also, one additional departure gate.

The fliers coming at Pune Airport have to wait in long queues due to less number of security checkpoints and also they have to wait at departure gate while entering the terminal building for the boarding pass. The authority of the airport received feedback from several passengers stating that they have to wait longer than the expected time at check-in counters and the security hold area.

Ajay Kumar, Director, Pune Airport said that at present there are eight security checkpoints gates and they will add two more.

“We are going to increase the security checkpoints from eight to ten. One out of the two gates will be available by mid of September and other will be available in November. Also, by coming winter schedule these will be increased to five and by January we plane to have six. After that, there will be six queues with three departure gates.”

In July, the airport authority had created an interconnection corridor to connect the security hold area one and two on the ground floor to enhance passengers’ facilitation. Now, from both security hold areas, all eight boarding gates can be approached.

Currently, the airport sees around 200 arrivals and departures every day. The high commuter volume, the infrastructure for check-ins, waiting lounges and other facilities have been improved in the past few months and the authorities are looking forward to more changes for fliers.

“There has been an overall improvement in various facilities at the airport. Passenger volume has increased and there is the issue of a long wait in different queues during peak hours. We had two spaces on the ground floor, which were security hold areas. Here, the passengers, after completing the check-in process, used to wait for final boarding of the flight. Hence, we decided to set up a single security check facility for fliers,” said Kumar.
