PUNE: The residents of residential societies in Kondhwa on the Gangadham-Katraj Road are having a difficult time reaching their homes after their day’s work due to the incessant traffic jams there.

The residents, who have been rendered helpless as their repeated appeals to the authorities has borne no results, say that the 3 km patch of road takes up to an hour sometimes to traverse.

Naren Agarwal, a resident of Shri Shantinagar society, who has a shop in Marketyard, said, “I have been observing the traffic in the area for the last month or so. I come from my shop at around 10 pm and still get stuck in traffic. 

“It is a small patch of 3 kilometres. It should not take more than 10-15 minutes to reach our homes,” Agarwal said, “I feel tired and stressed after reaching home, as it takes me an hour.”

Another resident, Patil, from Shyamal Colorado society, said, “We face this problem every day. We have tried approaching the authorities and yet have seen nothing but false assurances. We are tired of complaining.”

Agarwal said that the residents have tried approaching the local police as well as the traffic control room but have received no response.

The issue, according to the residents, is that the small patch of road, which begins at the Gangadham chowk near Marketyard and climbs upwards towards Katraj, has 3 major marriage halls. The halls, which see a huge demand, especially in the wedding season, see vehicles being parked, ceremonial processions blocking traffic and causing a traffic jam.
