Road to Sinhgad fort will remain closed in December

PUNE: The ghat section leading to Sinhgad fort will remain closed for vehicles for a month from December 2 due to the installation of steel net on the roadside of Sinhgad ghat road.

The ghat section towards Sinhgad has been vulnerable to landslides and loose boulders and there have been 10 to 15 landslide-related incidents reported during monsoon in 2019.

Due to sudden landslides, vehicular moment has been stopped which may also cause severe incidents.

On the Sinhgad ghat, no human casualty was reported after the landslides, but officials from the State Public Work Department and forest officials will instal a steel net to prevent any major mishap in the future.

Executive Engineer of Public Work Department, Pune, Dhananjay Deshpande, said, “In case of landslides, the vehicles could not pass through the ghat. Therefore, we are taking up this work on installing steel net from Monday which will be completed by December end and avoid mishaps for the visitors who come to see the fort. ”
