PUNE: After Sakal Times highlighted the issue of Mohammadwadi residents facing challenges due to lack of proper road for past five years on February 8, the work for the road will start on Monday. More than two hundred families, who stay in the area, will now be able to commute anytime of the day without fear of meeting with an accident due to the poor condition of the road.

On Saturday, Sneha Waghchaure, Junior Engineer of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), visited the stretch of road joining Ganga Kingston, Gemeni and Raheja Vistas, all the upmarket townships in Mohammadwadi area, and assured the residents that the road work will be completed in a short period of time.

She said, “Deputy Engineer Shramik Shankar Shevate and I visited the place. We heard the problems faced by the residents of the housing societies nearby. We will be starting the work of the road on Monday and complete it in 2 months.”

Earlier, a visit by Sakal Times reporter to check the condition of the 18-metre approach road to the societies revealed that the road was unfit for driving, leading to many accidents, as two-wheelers skidded and few pregnant women suffered miscarriages. However, after the visit of Waghchaure, the residents staying at Ganga Kingston, Gemeni and Raheja Vistas have heaved a sigh of relief. 

Daljeet Goraya, Secretory of Ganga Kingston, said, “The work for the 18-metre road, which was in dismay since last five years, will start from Monday and will be completed within two months. The first 9 metres of the road will be constructed first as for the construction of the remaining portion, they need to acquire private land.” 

Rutuja Pawar, a housewife, said, “I am jubilant with this decision and I want to thank the media for extending a helping hand.” Pawar, however, added that the issue of a 150-metre pipeline of drainage still needs to be resolved.
