RTO to conduct checks of heavy vehicles on Nagar Road

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has taken a serious note of a recent accident on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway at Lonikand and decided to conduct surprise checks on vehicles on this road. A number of dumpers and tankers ply on this road daily creating traffic chaos.

The accident took place a couple of days ago on Ahmednagar Road, in which seven people died. There are several quarries in Lonikand and Wagholi areas. Massive construction activities take place in these areas. Hence, a number of tankers and dumpers ply on this road frequently. The median on this road has been punctured at many places to facilitate movement of these vehicles.

Since many of these vehicles are old, they cause accidents. Hence, the RTO decided to carry out surprise checks of water tankers, dumpers and heavy vehicles on this road, said Regional Transport Officer Babasaheb Ajari.
