Pune: Sadhana Prakashan released a book on the life of eminent agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan at a function held at SM Joshi hall on Friday.

The 92-year-old scientist himself was the chief guest of the function. The book titled ‘Swaminathan Bhukmukticha Dhyaas’ is written by Atul Deulgaanvkar, who has mentioned details about Swaminathan’s contribution towards Indian agriculture as well as various incidents of his life in the book.

Swaminathan, who is also as known as the Indian father of Green Revolution, once famously said, “The future belongs to the countries with grains, not guns.”

Devinder Sharma, an agriculture scientist and a junior of Prof Swaminathan said, “Prof Swaminathan had made the report ten years back but no government has implemented it. He is the one who recommended to fix minimum support price at the level of 50 per cent more than the cost of production. “Since 1995, 3,30,000 farmers have committed suicide, it’s not the production, it’s the income of farmers we should focus on to make their lives better,” added Sharma.

Other dignitaries such as farmer leader Vijay Jawandhia and office bearers of Sadhna Prakashan were present during the function.
