Pune: To motivate the students to understand the correlation between science and art, the Exciting Science Group (ESG), volunteer group of scientists from IISER Pune and CSIR-NCL, had organised ‘Science and Art competition’, for the students from Std V to X. It gave the students, who are good in illustration skills, a good platform, encouraging their thinking skills in scientific concepts.

Gayatri Kshirsagar, Associate, ESG, said, “This was the sixth time ESG organised this competition. Science and art are correlated, both are based on imagination, innovation and creativity. This year, we had received more than 300 entries from various schools across Pune and a few other districts. We have not only crossed the language barrier by opening the competition to the schools belonging to all the boards, but have also created a platform for the students to express their ideas about science through art.”

Dr Arvind Natu (IISER Pune) was the chief guest for the event, which was held at the Balan Science Activity Centre. Natu also felicitated the winners of the competition. Highlighting how cutting edge technologies are inspired from nature, he encouraged students to look into the nature and find scientific solutions to the complex problems. He also advised students to look forward to a career in basic sciences as there is a bright future for the students, who will opt for research in basic sciences.
