Pune: A former student of Modern Education Society (MES) College of Engineering has filed a sexual and mental harassment complaint against her two teachers. 

In her complaint, she alleged that one of the teachers talked to her in lewd language, besides making gestures which amount to sexual harassment. A complaint under Section 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code has been filed. 

She lodged the FIR with Koregaon Park police station on December 14, however, the incidents of harassment allegedly took place in the year 2016-17, when the victim was a final year student of the college. 

A gold medalist student, the victim claims she was first accused of inciting students for mass bunking and later, her character assassination was done in front of the college principal. 

She told Sakal Times, “I filed several complaints with the internal committee (women cell) of the college, but no cognizance was taken. I complained to the principal, but he ignored it. Then I discussed it with some lady teachers of the college, who helped me file the complaint with the police, as well as with State Women’s Commission, after their attempts to take up the issue with the higher authorities failed. An FIR was filed against one teacher and a non-cognisable offence against the other.”  

One of the lady teachers who helped the girl said, “These kinds of problems started after these two teachers joined the college three years ago. They are temporary teachers, but for reasons unknown to us, they have been shielded by our principal. We have taken up the complaint with State Women’s Commission and we have got a positive response from them.” 

When contacted, the college principal refused to comment.
