Shiv Sena leader’s murder case: MCOCA slapped against 10 suspects

Pune City Police has slapped stringent provisions of MCOCA against the ten suspects arrested on charges of murdering Shiv Sena youth leader

Pune: The Pune City Police has slapped stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the ten suspects arrested on charges of murdering Shiv Sena youth leader Deepak Maratkar in Budhwar Peth area.

Investigations into the Maratkar murder case has revealed that crime syndicates likes Bapu Nayar and Swapnil alias Satish alias Chocolate Modave were involved in the killing of Deepak Maratkar. Hence, Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta issued orders regarding applying MCOCA against the ten suspects.

The suspects arrested in this case are Ashwini Sopan Kamble, Niranjan Sagar Mhakale, Rahul Shrinivas Ragir, Rohit Dattatreya Kshirsagar, Lakhan Manohar Dhavare, Mahendra Madanlal Saraf, Prashant alias Sunny Prakash Kolte, Rohit alias Bala Kamlakar Kamble, Sandeep alias Muglya Prakash Kolte, Chandrashekhar Ramdas Waghel. They all have been booked sections of MCOCA.

Deepak Maratkar, an office bearer of the Yuva Sena was murdered by suspects using a sharp weapon. He was hacked to death in the red-light area of Budhwar Peth in the heart of Pune city. Investigations revealed that the murder was planned and done by organised crime syndicates like Bapu Nayar to keep their control over the red-light area.

Accordingly, Senior Police Inspector Jagannath Kalaskar had sent a proposal to book the suspects under the MCOCA. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr Sanjay Shinde scrutinized the proposal and gave his approval to it. Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta has also instructed police officers to keep the criminal activities of organised syndicates under check.
