Sindhi New Year celebrated

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: The city-based Sindhi community celebrated the Sindhi New Year ‘Cheti Chand’, at the Sadhu Vaswani Mission on Sunday.

According to the Hindu calendar, it is celebrated on the second day of the Chaitra month known as Chet (in Sindhi). Hence, it is known as Chet-I-Chand (a day after Ugadi and Gudhi Padwa).

This year, it was observed on April 6.

The community also celebrates this festival in honour of the birth of Ishtadeva Uderolal, popularly known as Jhulelal, the Patron Saint of the Sindhis.

The celebrations included vocal rendition by Manjushree Assudani Tejwani and a short skit. This was followed by Sindhi Upadesh by Gurudev Sadhu Vaswani and Rev Dada JP Vaswani. Rev Dada’s Upadesh on Cheti Chand was on the topic of ‘the balance sheet of life’.
