Pune: Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) has joined hands with Robin Hood Army to support the war against hunger in a bid to make Pune hunger-free. PSCDCL participated in a campaign for hunger-free Pune where Robin Hood Army served meals to needy people on August 15, 2018.

Pune Smart City senior representative, Sebastian Mony graced the occasion on behalf of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PSCDCL at Pune railway station where he distributed food to beneficiaries along with the volunteers. 

Rajendra Jagtap, CEO of PSCDCL, said, “For us at Pune Smart City, reducing food waste remains a matter of educating residents, providing the necessary infrastructure and creating a consistent messaging strategy that addresses both sides of the issue, preventing food waste and recycling organic matter once there is waste. We want to use every platform to reach our citizens and make Pune a happy, healthy and liveable city.”

Neel Ghosh, Founder, Robin Hood Army, said, “Hunger cannot be solved by one team alone, whether it is the government, an NGO, or a volunteer organisation. The aim of Mission Million 2018 is to bring everyone together to make a hunger-free India.” 

Robin Hood Army is a volunteer-based organisation working towards curbing food wastage and eliminating hunger globally. Robin Hood Pune has 13 chapters and over 600 volunteers serving food to 500 less fortunate people every day.

On August 15, Robin Hood Army served 5,000 ‘bags of hope’ (grocery kit serving 5 lakh meals) to 5,000 tribal and needy families in 20-25 villages around Pune. The NGO volunteers collect surplus food from various events like weddings, parties and they serve the food to needy citizens in different parts of the city.
