Pune: To strengthen employability of students, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will introduce two new courses - Masters in Vocation (MVoc) and Bachelor of Vocation in Jewellery and Gemmology from the new academic year.
“The institutes, which are recognised by the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), are permitted to offer the MVoc course. There are around 64 centres which host this course. Now, the SPPU has got the opportunity to start the course,” said Pooja More, Director of the Skill Development Centre at SPPU.
The fee structure of the MVoc course will be much lesser compared to private institutions. The course has been designed in a manner so that students get a maximum of field exposure.
Students enrolling for MVoc course will receive a diploma certificate on completion of one year and an advanced diploma certificate on completion of two years. This pattern has been set as per the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).
“Due to flexibility in the course structure, students can re-enrol for the course,” added More. While the university has been hosting the BVoc course in automotive automation, IT/ITS, retail management and renewable energy since 2014-15, it has now decided to start a masters course in it.
“The university has decided to start the course keeping in mind, the need and demand of skilled workers in and around Pune,” said More.
