SPPU student commits suicide in hostel room

Pune: In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old student of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) ended her life by committing suicide in the university premises on Monday. 

The girl hanged herself from the roof of her room in the university hostel.

The deceased student was identified as Reshma Gaikwad, a resident of Parner in Ahmednagar. She was a second-year student of M Sc Botany. According to the information provided by her friends, she was absolutely fine a day before the incident happened and was happy as her friends celebrated her birthday on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. 

She was good in academics and did well in third semester exams, results of which were announced three days before.

Dayanand Dhomne, Police Inspector,  Chatuhshrungi police station, said, “The reason behind the suicide is not clear and we have started our probe and will reach a conclusion soon.”
