PUNE: In the last couple of years, there has been untimely disbursement of scholarship amount, dispute between scholarship beneficiaries and educational institutes, irregular admission procedures and several petitions filed by students lined up in Bombay High Court.

Following which, the students have stressed on the need of better education facilities and increase in employment in the state. They have also said that the government should form an education committee which will analyse issues related to education and students like scholarship and also have direct communication with students. 

“The State government should form an independent education committee comprising students and educated people from different sectors and it shouldn’t be controlled by any political party. This committee can analyse regularly the quality of education and issues of students like scholarship. Many students this year received their scholarship amount late because of which they struggled to have their meals,” said third year BSc student Vishal Palve.

The concern about privatisation had also seen its peak in the past few years which has worried a section of students in the society. “We need an education which is affordable for all-- from underprivileged to privileged background students. The commercialisation of education needs to stop now. However, several political parties have come to power over the years but have only made fake promises,” said Krishna Sathe, second year law student.

Another student, MCom graduate Satish Pawar who is currently preparing for National Eligibility Test (NET) said that there should be a special forum for students grievances in the courts. “The 2017 batch of MPSC has recently joined its posts after almost over a year. There have been petitions related to medical admissions and different issues have been filed by students in the past. All these petitions have consumed several months or at least a year, delaying the admission and recruitment procedures,” said Pawar.  “The State government should declare at least two days around the election so students who belong to rural areas studying in the city can go to their villages to vote,” said Vishal Dabhade, a third year BSc student.
