Swine flu toll touches 71

Pune: A 59-year-old woman from Yerwada died due to swine flu on Saturday at 1.44 pm taking the city toll to 71 as reported by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Health Department on Friday.

The swab sample of this woman was sent for testing to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) on July 8 and tested positive on July 11.
Since January 1 this year, H1N1 has claimed 21 residents from the PMC limits and 50 residing outside the PMC limits.

As on Friday, 11 people are still on the ventilator. On Friday, 2,316 patients were screened for H1N1 and 122 were administered Tamiflu tablets. Twelve swab samples were sent for testing and four tested positive.  

A 58-year-old woman from Raigad district was also reported dead on Thursday at 10:32 pm. The swab sample of this woman was sent for testing on Thursday and she tested positive on Saturday.

Since January, 4,62,947 patients were screened for swine flu and 1,461 swab samples sent for testing and 350  found positive for H1N1. Around 8,798 patients were administered Tamiflu tablets.
