Thieves driving Mercedes to escape cops held in Lonavla

PUNE: Two thieves who used to drive a Mercedes car to avoid detection have been arrested by the local crime branch of Pune rural police in Lonavla. They were caught near Tiger Point while investigating a burglary case in which valuables worth Rs 6.5 lakh were stolen from a bungalow on November 1.

The accused persons were identified as Mohammad Irfan Akhtar Shaikh (29) and Mohammad Maruf Matiur Ali (25), both natives of Sitamarhi district in Bihar. The police said that there are seven burglaries cases against Shaikh in Delhi. 

According to the police, the accused stayed at a hotel in Mumbai and drove to Lonavla to commit thefts. From the bungalow in Lonavla, the accused had stolen cash and valuables including Montblanc’s pen, totally worth Rs 6.5 lakh on November 1. The police had got CCTV footages and a technical analysis report of their location, and accordingly, the police nabbed the duo at Tiger Point in Lonavla.

The police claimed to have seized various tools used in the burglary from the duo along with Rs 8,800 cash. As the car was also used in the crime, the police have seized it too.
