PUNE: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) registered 25.73 crore ridership and generated Rs 338.12 crore revenue from April to November this year which is Rs 4.15 crore more than the previous year. However, 37,978 buses broke down during the same period. Meanwhile, the city traffic police imposed Rs 7.72 lakh fine on 286 PMPML buses for causing traffic jams.

The PMPML has added new buses including electric, CNG and midibuses to their fleet. The increase in revenue has occurred as many passengers prefer to travel by air-conditioned electric buses.

As of now, 96 e-buses are in the fleet and more will join the fleet in the future. The target is to induct 150 more e-buses in the fleet by next year. 

As per information provided by PMPML, last year, in the same period, Rs 333.87 crore was earned. In terms of ridership, 25.73 crore passengers travelled by PMPML from April to November this year. As compared to the previous year in the same period, 24.65 crore passengers travelled by PMPML buses. Adding ‘Tejaswini’ buses to the fleet has proved beneficial as women passengers prefer to travel by them, which has helped boost the revenue of the department.

The transport body had earned Rs 39.18 crore in April 2018. This year in April, it earned Rs 38.89 crore. In November this year, the PMPML earned Rs 43.48 crore, while it had collected Rs 39.11 crore last year during the same period. In all, 2.86 crore passengers travelled in April this year and 3.29 crore travelled in November this year.
 
For the commuters, the PMPML had operated 1,979 buses in April and 2,259 in November. The number is increased due to more buses such as e-buses, CNG-run buses, midibuses and Tejaswini in the fleet.  Besides, the number of breakdowns decreased from April to November this year. Around 4,716 buses broke down in April, while 3,663 buses broke down in November. Due to this, the city traffic police registered 286 cases against PMPML drivers and fined Rs 7.72 lakh. PMPML still has to pay.
