Two killed, three injured in mishap in Khandala tunnel

Pune: Two youths were killed and three were injured after the car in which they were travelling rammed into side walls of Khandala tunnel on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Wednesday afternoon. 

According to Lonavla police, the deceased were identified as Kevin Kapadia (22) and Pankti Parekh (19) from Tardeo in Mumbai. 

The injured were identified as Harshal Sheth(19), Dhairya Sangvi (19) and  Rajat Gami (20).

The police said Kevin and Pankti were sitting in front seats of the car and suffered maximum injuries. The injured trio were taken to Pioneer Hospital in Talegaon.

Lonavla police said the five youths were returning from Lonavla after celebrating Kevin’s birthday when the incident took place. 
At 2 pm, the driver of the car lost control after the car entered the Khandala tunnel. 

Traffic on the Expressway towards Mumbai was affected as it took some time for the police and IRB to take the injured to hospital and clear the traffic. 

The police said after hitting the side wall of the tunnel the car was dragged for about 100 feet. Kevin and Pankti suffered multiple injuries and succumbed to injuries. 

Lonavla police are investigating the case further.
