Pune: In addition to its regular circulation issued to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging in educational institutions, the University Grants Commission (UGC) will soon launch a national university filmmaking competition to spread awareness about ragging and to curb the menace.

The UGC has asked the universities to encourage and promote students and faculty to make films on ragging.

The circular mentions that the entries could be from university departments and affiliated colleges. The universities, through an internal selection procedure, will select the three best entries to be sent to the UGC. The films may be documentary or fiction films of a duration of 5 to 10 minutes.

The UGC will constitute an expert committee to select three best films from the entries submitted by varsities and award them Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh for the first, second and third best films, respectively. It has mentioned that the selected films would be the property of the UGC and would be uploaded on its website while giving credit to the filmmaker.

The films can be submitted in a pen drive or DVD to the UGC latest by November 30.
