Pune: The wastepickers’ collective, Solid Waste Collection and Handling (SWaCH) has launched ‘V-Collect’ initiative to provide people with better contact to recycling facilities.
‘V- Collect’ is an initiative run by SWaCH in association with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) which will collect unused items from houses, such as clothes, toys, books and electronic gadgets too. It will be re-distributed to the poor in the city.
SWaCH is functioning the V-Collect van and it will run in the city from till November 13. Additional municipal commissioner Kunal Khemnar, solid waste management department’s Madhav Jagtap, additional commissioner Yashwant Dange and the SWaCH organisation’s Alok Gogate and Laxmi Narayan, launched the programme recently.
“V collect has been a regular and much-in-demand initiative of the PMC-SWaCH model through which people give away discarded, but reusable items. Diwali is one of the busiest times of the year for all those in waste management,” a press statement read.
The V-Collect on Wheels drive will cover locations such as Kothrud, Model Colony and Bhosalenagar on November 9 while residents of Pashan to Warje can donate on November 10. Sahakarnagar to Magarpatta on November 11, Dhole Patil Road, Kharadi, Vishrantwadi on 12. November 13 is reserved for Nigdi and Thergaon. To know more about the initiative one can call: 9765999500.
